What do you think about stem cell research being done to help
refurbish hearts? In an article called “Study: Stem cells from strangers can
repair hearts,” they talk about using the stem cells that they have gathered to
use on patients who have had heart attacks, so they can refurbish their hearts
for them. This could help tons of people from passing away, and from getting
serious heart diseases from heart attacks.
They
started this study by only using 30 people who they selected to use this stem
cell study on, and they only did this study in two different places. The
doctors did this stem cell surgery in Baltimore and Miami. The stem cells that
they collected were from the hip bone because this type of marrow isn’t
rejected from the human body. By the doctors studying this stem cell research,
they will help patients be able to have a healthy heart again, and be able to
have their blood pump through their heart successfully. Some of their patients said
that they felt brand new after having the surgery because the stem cell surgery
actually worked and was successful.
Since
this study was successful, do you think that doctors should keep testing the boundaries
of science, or should they leave things the way they are? I believe that this
could go both ways. It’s a great thing that they are saving lives with this
stem cell surgery, but what if the surgery doesn’t work on everybody. If it
doesn’t work on everybody then they are going to have to keep testing until it
does.Research everything possible. Even the patients.
Overall,
stem cell research has some positive outcomes for the people who need repairs
to their heart. I believe that this study is a good thing because it could save
more people from being ill. What type research will they think of next?
